Completing your TD1 tax forms

Your TD1 forms tell your employer how much income tax to deduct from your pay. RoostPay must have your completed TD1 on file before payroll can run. This guide covers the recommended guided wizard, and the manual option if you’d rather fill in the PDFs yourself.

Starting your Tax Declaration (TD1)

  1. From the Home screen, find the Complete your TD1 Tax Form card under URGENT ACTIONS and tap Complete.
  2. On the Tax Declaration (TD1) screen, choose how you’d like to complete your TD1:
    • Tap Use the guided wizard (Recommended) — RoostPay asks step-by-step questions, calculates your claim amounts, and fills the CRA forms for you.
    • Or tap Fill PDFs manually instead if you’d rather enter your own numbers directly on the federal and provincial PDF forms.
Note: The guided wizard is recommended because it results in fewer errors than editing the PDF by hand.

Guided wizard

  1. On Personal Information, confirm your Date of Birth, home address, and Social Insurance Number (SIN). If a SIN is already on file, it’s shown masked — tap it to enter a new one. Tap Save and Continue.
  2. On Residency & Employment, answer:
    • Are you a non-resident of Canada?
    • Do you have more than one employer or payer at the same time?
    • Will you claim the deduction for living in a prescribed northern or intermediate zone?
Note: If you have more than one employer, your total claim amount is set to $0 for this employer — you should only claim personal tax credits on one TD1.
  1. On Tax credits, answer each question that applies to you, such as whether you have an approved Disability Tax Credit, are claiming the Amount for an Eligible Dependant, the Spouse or Common-Law Partner Amount, tuition amounts, or pension income. Tap Transferred amounts if you’re receiving an amount transferred from a dependant or spouse with lower income.
  2. If you don’t have more than one employer, you’ll also see Income vs total claim. Answer whether your total income for the year will be less than your total claim amount, and enter your Estimated total annual income if so.
  3. On Additional Tax, optionally enter an amount for Additional tax to be deducted per pay period. This step is optional.
  4. On Review & Sign, review your Federal TD1 and Provincial TD1BC previews, then tap Confirm and Sign.
  5. Review Your claim totals, check the box to certify that the information given in this return is correct, complete, and fully discloses all your income.
  6. Sign below the certification — toggle between drawing your signature or typing your full legal name.
  7. Tap Submit & Generate PDF.

Filling PDFs manually

  1. On Edit your TD1 forms, complete the federal form first by tapping into each field, then tap Next Form to move to the provincial form.
  2. Complete the provincial form, then tap Sign TD1.
  3. Check the certification box, sign below, and tap Submit & Generate PDF.
Note: With the manual option, you sign both forms together at the end, after filling them both in.

After you submit

Once submitted, you’ll see TD1 submitted successfully!. Tap Review the TD1 now to view your signed federal and provincial forms, or Close to return home. Your employer is notified automatically. You can always find your signed TD1 later from the Pay & Docs screen.
