Adding, Editing, and Deleting Shifts

Use the add/edit sheet to schedule work shifts for your caregivers, and to edit or remove shifts you’ve already scheduled — including ones that repeat.

1. Open the add sheet

  1. From Schedule, tap the + button (or + inside a day’s summary).
  2. At the top, choose the Event Type: Work Shift or General Event. (For General Event, see Schedule Events, Stat Holidays, and Time Off.)

2. Fill in a work shift

  1. If you have more than one employee, choose who it’s for under Assign to employee.
  2. Enter an Event Title (RoostPay suggests “[First name] - Shift” automatically).
  3. Enter a Label — start typing to see and reuse labels you’ve used before, or type a new one.
  4. Choose which Eligible for tax deduction types apply: Child care, Medical expense credit, or Provincial credit.
  5. Set Starts and Ends — tap the date to pick a day, and the time to pick a time.
  6. Choose how often it repeats (see step 4 below).
  7. Tap Save Shift.
Note: You need at least one employee added to your household before you can create a work shift. If none exists yet, the work shift fields are disabled with a message: "Add an employee first to create a work shift. You can still create a General Event."

3. Set the shift’s date and time

  • Tapping the Starts or Ends date opens a date picker; tapping the time opens a time picker.
  • If the end date is after the start date, RoostPay shows a warning that the shift spans multiple days.

4. Choose a recurrence

Under the recurrence section (shown as “Does not repeat” by default), choose one of:

  • Does not repeat
  • Every Weekday
  • Weekly on [day] — repeats on the same weekday as your start date.
  • Monthly on the fourth [day]
  • Custom… — opens the custom recurrence dialog.

Custom recurrence

  1. Choose Repeat every [N] day / week / month.
  2. If weekly, tap the days you want it to repeat on.
  3. Under Ends, choose Never, On a specific date, or After a number of occurrences.
  4. Tap Done to apply, or Cancel to discard.

5. Edit an existing shift

  1. On the schedule (calendar tap, agenda card, or day summary), tap the pencil icon on a shift.
  2. The add sheet opens pre-filled with that shift’s details, titled Edit shift.
  3. Make your changes and tap Save Shift.

6. Delete a shift

  1. Tap the trash icon on a shift card.
  2. Confirm you want to delete it.
  3. If the shift repeats, you’ll be asked to choose:
    • This shift only
    • This and following events — removes this and every future occurrence.
    • All events — removes every occurrence in the series.
Note: Deleting is permanent. If you only meant to remove one occurrence of a recurring shift, choose "This shift only" so the rest of the series stays intact.

Edge cases

  • Could not delete shift: check your connection or try again — the shift stays on the schedule if the delete fails.
  • Multiple employees: if your household has more than one active employee, an Assign to employee dropdown appears so you can pick who the shift belongs to.
  • Shift labels: labels are shared across your household’s shifts, so previously used labels (like “Morning routine”) appear as suggestions as you type.
