If you need to raise or lower a caregiver’s hourly rate mid-contract, use a wage amendment. Both you and your caregiver sign it electronically before the new rate takes effect.
1. Open the wage amendment form
- Go to Household management, then open your caregiver’s record.
- Under Pay & schedule, tap Update hourly rate. This is only available once the caregiver’s employment contract has been signed.
- The Update hourly rate sheet opens, explaining: “You sign first, then your employee. The new rate applies from the effective date after both sign.”
2. Enter the new rate and effective date
- Review the Current hourly rate, shown for reference.
- Under New Hourly Rate, enter the new hourly rate.
- Tap the Effective date row to open a date picker, and choose when the new rate should take effect. You can choose a date in the past or up to two years in the future.
- Tap Continue to sign.
3. Sign and send
After tapping Continue to sign, RoostPay opens the Review & Sign screen so you can sign the addendum first — see the Employer Contract Signing article for that step. Once you’ve signed, your caregiver is notified to review and sign the same addendum from their side.
4. What happens after both sign
Once your caregiver signs, you’re notified that the wage amendment is complete and the new rate is ready for payroll. Until they sign, RoostPay keeps using the current rate for pay runs — you’ll see a reminder that a wage amendment is awaiting signature.
Edge cases
- Enter a hourly rate greater than zero: shown if you leave the new rate blank or enter zero.
- New rate must be different from the current rate: shown if you enter the same rate that’s already on file.
- Could not send the wage amendment: shown if saving fails. Try again.
- Leaving the signing screen without completing your signature discards the wage amendment draft — you’ll need to start over from Update hourly rate.
